Ki is a band based in San Diego, CA.
When the band manager, Lynnia, contacted me requesting I spend the day with the band to capture some casual images of them there was no hesitation in my answer. Of course. I've photographed bands on stage before but there is nothing like the thrill of being able to hang out and get comfortable with a band to really capture their essence.
We met up on a pretty darn warm day, for San Diego, and started off with a breakfast all together ... all homemade in the kitchen of the house they all live and practice in. Kiley, the lead singer, took the reigns to the meal and we all sat down and feasted on some glorious food before kicking off the photography. This not only integrated me into their daily life and made them use to me, but it made me used to them - something often overlooked when practicing the art of portrait photography.
After all said and done, we spent a full day together... laughing, talking, shooting, and exploring. Having the chance to photograph people, or in this case a band, by spending a large swath of time together over the normal 1-2hrs is extremely beneficial. I think Ki ended up with something outside of the norm and will have images that capture their personalities to look back upon, and use, whenever they need.
It's hard to give a gist of an entire day, over 12 hrs of time spent hanging out, in just a few images but I think these do a damn good job of describing the events that took place.
